HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY! from all the staff at Toronto Women's Bookstore

1. Toronto Women’s Bookstore is pleased to present an evening with two lesbian romantic fiction writers, Jessica Casavant and Radclyffe, reading from their newest novels.

FRIDAY APRIL 1, 2005 7pm
Toronto Women’s Bookstore
73 Harbord St. (south of Bloor, west of Spadina)
Free, wheelchair accessible, all are welcome to attend.

Jessica Casavant’s new novel is “Imperfect Past”, the third in the Boston friends’ series. Detective Jamie Saunders is on a new case, one that is making it difficult for her to continue to believe in hope, and is forcing her to confront a past that cannot be undone. Jessica Casavant is the author of many popular lesbian romantic fiction novels including Walking Wounded and Twist of Fate.

Radclyffe’s new novel is “Distant Shores, Silent Thunder”, the third installment in the Provincetown series. In this book Radclyffe weaves a story of forgiveness, redemption and love, that is a pleasure not only for the subtleties in the writing, but for the continued richness of the characters. Radclyffe’s characters are so intimately drawn, so beautifully gestured, that one is hard pressed not to fall in love with each one. Radclyffe has written many books, including Justice Served and Beyond the Breakwater.

2. Toronto Women’s Bookstore and Knopf Canada are pleased to present:
Jeanette Winterson in Toronto reading from her new novel: Lighthousekeeping

MONDAY APRIL 11, 2005 7pm
Tickets on sale now $5 to $12 sliding scale
General admission, No Refunds
Church of the Holy Trinity 10 Trinity Square (behind the Eaton Centre at Yonge and Dundas)
This venue is wheelchair accessible
Featuring author Elizabeth Ruth as the M.C. for the evening.

Lighthousekeeping (2004, Knopf) is a story of mutability, of talking birds and stolen books, and of the Jekyll and Hyde in all of us. This book is a way in to the rooms that we secretly inhabit and the lighthouses we strive towards.

3. JOIN THE STRUGGLE TO SUPPORT Wendy Maxwell/Queen Nzinga

YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED!
On Saturday March 5th at the International Women’s Day rally at Jorgenson Hall at Ryerson University, a woman was arrested by 51 Division officers while selling cookies to raise money for CKLN Community Radio. Her crime: living in Canada with out Immigration status. Wendy Maxwell, also known as Nzinga, is now in jail at the Vanier Centre for Women in Milton. She could be deported at any time.

Nzinga is a talented Black Woman who is an active member of our community. Many who have met her either as a colleague, friend, or through her community work admire her tenacity and humility. These are the type of people our community needs.
