2. The Toronto Women's Bookstore is pleased to host an event with
Palestinian activist and poet Rauda Morcos.
Rauda Morcos is coordinator of Aswat/Voices, a pioneer group of young
Palestinian gay women who have organized themselves during this past
year. Rauda will be in Toronto on Thursday, September 30th, 2004.
There will be a reading of her poetry - in Arabic and English -at
the Bookstore, followed by a fundraising reception. Proceeds go to
Aswat.

Planet in Focus is Canada's only annual environmental film and video
festival. PIF aims to promote the use of film and video as catalysts
for public awareness, discussion, and appropriate action on the ecological
and social health of the planet. This year’s festival runs from September
28 - October 3. The festival will feature 81 films from around the
world, a variety of genres as well as panel discussions, workshops,
an eco fair, multi-faith celebration, organic pancake brunch, a schools

4. Cuban Feminist Literature with instructor: Clelia Rodriguez
Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm
At Toronto Women’s Bookstore, 73 Harbord St.
Clelia Rodriguez will speak about female writers in Cuba and discuss
her research on Cuban Feminist writers focussing on issues such as
sensuality and sexuality.
She will explore the importance of the Cuban Revolution in order
to clarify the nature of the relationship between Cuban literature
and women’s bodies. Feminist Literature in Cuba has helped to develop
a socialist project as an imperative factor that has contributed to
important changes for the condition of women’s lives in Cuba.
This workshop is open to anyone who speaks Spanish and is interested
in Cuban Feminist Literature.
Some of the readings are in Spanish only and will not be translated
into English. A reading package will be available to be picked up
by all registered participants the week of September 27, 2004. All
participants are required to read the package prior to the workshop.
Some authors that are included in the reading package are: Dulce
María Loynaz, Reina María Rodríguez, Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda,
Zoe Valdes and others

Judith Wedderburn is a Founding Member of the Administrative Committee
of Women's Media Watch (Jamaica), an organization working to improve
the gender balance and representation in media output in Jamaica.
Urvashi Butalia has been very active in work relating to the women's
movement, oral history, conflict and the media for over 25 years.
She co-founded Kali for Women - India's first and only feminist publishing
house.
